Sure, you wrote the song. But that doesn’t mean you KNOW the song. Live with it a minute. Let it evolve and mature. The little inside jokes, the idiosyncrasies that grow out of learning to navigate a wrong turn here and there, all of these give your song a character that’s hard to fake. If you are in a rush, you can try to build those moments in artificially. But there’s nothing quite so natural as a song that has come into its own by being played and shared over and over. If you let your music ripen naturally, you may have an easier time creating a compelling arrangement and a production that connects.
